Today, Erin and I celebrate 5 years of being married. I know of many people who've been married much longer than that, but at one point in time they to were married for just 5 years. I know everyone must say this, but my goodness has time flew! It seriously feels like a moment ago I was saying, "I Do." With any married couple there are the "up" days and days where if you had heat vision power like superman you would burn each other up (not out of passion, but out of a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick to the face kind of love). I adore my wife and family and am so thankful that God would entrust me to love and protect them. So, here are a few things I've learned over the past 5 years from being married to Erin.
- It's near impossible for me to win an argument. But I never surrender easy.
- Red Heads do have a slight temper, but they are always quick to show love (most of the time).
- Even though I have two degrees and Erin has one...hers says, "DOCTOR" and that seems to trump mine.
- Having someone who actually loves me, believes in me, and who is willing to dream with me has been amazing.
- I guess being married really helps a person discover who they are in a deeper way. And you come to a greater understanding that life without this person would seem incomplete (I know you were waiting for the "Jerry McGuire" quote).
- Honesty when used in the right context can be a good thing. However, being honest just out of spite is asking for trouble.
- Turning off ALL the lights and closing ALL the doors in the house and wondering if Erin would notice it before smacking into one...not a good idea...funny...but still not a good idea
- Thinking that taking out the garbage will result in a prize or a reward. Not going to happen. It falls under the job description of "Husband."
